Using essential oils can help you relax, de-stress, and live a healthier and happier life. There are several essential oils that I can’t live without and can’t recommend enough. And they’re all excellent stress reducers that help calm and reduce anxiety. If you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or anxious, I recommend picking up one (or several) of these essential oils…
- Rose Geranium
- Roman Chamomile
You can use these essential oils in a variety of ways to help relieve stress and anxiety and help calm and soothe you after a stressful day. Each can have relaxing effects on the body even amidst a busy, chaotic lifestyle. I know how crazy your days can be. You wake up and immediately rush out of bed, trying to get the kids ready in time and get through the a stressful morning commute before rushing to your first morning meeting. After a busy day at work, you rush to the grocery store, nearly avoid a car accident on the way, and get home just in time to throw dinner in the oven. Your day is busy and you put everything else first, taking care of everyone else before yourself.
I want you to try something different. Instead, when you get home in the evening after a long day, before you begin making dinner or start the laundry, tell your spouse and kids that you need 15 minutes. Go into your room, put your ipod on, play some soft music and sprinkle some essential oils onto your pillow.Your room should be that one place in the house that is yours. It’s clean, decluttered and where you have incorporated some feng shui. Any of the above essential oils are great for this, though I love using Lavender. Before you do anything, stop and take a few moments to decompress. Go into your room, close the door, open the windows, be tranquil, close your eyes, smell the essential oils, and breathe! Just breathe! And stop!
Taking this time for yourself helps you de-stress from a crazy, non-stop day. Breathing in the essential oils also helps you calm down and find a peaceful state of mind. It’s a great way to help you relieve anxiety and stress and give you these calming, relaxing feelings in your body. Creating a calm, peaceful bedroom is so important to relaxing and having a great night’s sleep. If you absolutely do not have time after work to take 15 minutes to yourself, then make sure you take 2 minutes to prepare your room for bed. A few hours before I go to bed, I go into my room, sprinkle a few essential oil drops on my pillow (or add a few drops into a humidifier) and create this space ready for sleep. It’s important that your bedroom is a calming, relaxing space for you. Take the time to keep it clean and have it smelling nice. And always keep a few essential oils on hand.
